Hello dearest friends,
almost a month since I have graced your browsers with my random blogs.
I have been a busy girl, my apologies.
I started uni and had a workload of crazy clips to ingest at C31.
I'm also writing a short story, creating a radio program and gallavanting around Melbourne reviewing gigs and festivals.
So, old news now but The Getaway Plan have broken up. Sources tell me that all members have side projects, Clint has been jamming with kevin (ex-behind crimson eyes) and Matt wants to work on a solo project with his gf, who is also in a band. Speaking of behind crimson eyes, after reports of apparently being unhappy with their last album due to the 'too heavy a metal' sounding record, they have released a follow up that has been gaining a lot of praise around town. I, however, don't see why. That is because, however, I am ignorant and don't like that band.
Anyway! Speaking of roaming round town, I was doing some media shiz at pushover a couple of weeks ago. I will forever protest my love for that festival. 2006, Luna Park, the getaway plan and parkway played to many adoring underage fans, most of which are now overage - myself included. So knowing of the underage festivities I didn't think I would enjoy it. Pretentious bullshit aside, I rediscovered the love I have for pushover, it's a festival that does not try to be anything else. Children collide were a definite highlight, despite the energy inconsistancy I felt their set was very grunge, very suave. And parkway drive fucking rocked. Whether you like hardcore/metal/whatever the fuck you genrelise them, when a band can create a set so hot you see the heat rising from the punters, you know they're fucking great.
Again, re-assuring me that way back in 2006 when I got bruised ribs from watching their set front of barrier, my pain was well worth it.
Speaking of well worth it, big day out this year. I didn't blog about it, I had far too much to say. But it was great. Many industry insiders say it was the presence of Neil Young. I would have to agree. I love big day, I love that you can have a hardcore 50 minutes of arctic monkeys pumping, and then on the next stage neil young and his hundred year old entourage can rock out in a chilled way.
Rolling with that theme, bgo headliner rumour for 2010 is Bruce Springsteen.
This may come as a suprise to many of you, but good ol' brucey is on the verge of a new release. I would know, I just ingested his new video clip the other day (which, by the way, is the classic band-in-studio-recording-song-oblivious-to-camera-lets-all-laugh-and-sing) brilliance really. The line up of this year will be hard to beat, but with or without bruce, I doubt it will dissapoint.
In other rumour headliner news, it is believe UK trio Friendly Fires will, alongside White Lies (E.S.T is an amazing song on the album and title of this blog entry - listen to it! it is amazing!) will play splendour in the grass. If so, be sure to see me there, as those two bands have producer probably two of the greatest albums over the last year. 07 line-up was stellar, 08 was pretty good, rolling with this theme I'm hoping 09 will top them, although 07 had arctic monkeys, so hardly.
No news on the new arctic album my friends. Alas, I too are shattered. Sources tell me it's not finished, that was to why the big media freeze when they were here in jan. They're playing a bunch of festivals in europe over the next couple of months. So i'm just randomly guessing the new album will pop up at the end of this year.
That, for now, is all. I think I may catch up on some blog posts I have saved here from the last months. My computer is in the middle of a mid life crisis at the minute so you will have to excuse my inconsistancy.
I will leave you with this...
V festival 08 was the greatest line up ever. nothing in my opinion could ever beat it. I do, however, have a free ticket and will be attending this year despite the appalling line up so stay tuned in the next couple of weeks for the lead up to that.
I'll also have some news on Moonee Valley fest, The Basics, a review of Kings Of Leon and general stories from my life.
Bella
