wolves evolve

Hello friends.
I am sorry, again, for my absence. I have been a very busy bee (geddit, 'coz my name is Bel.. my nickame is B). The easter break sees me gallavanting away to the land of Newtown for a while. I'm going to check out some sydney culture, I'm a bit over Melbourne at the minute.

As I promised... touring rumours! I am full of them aren't I.. well, Lily Allen - what a clever girl. She did a round of press here recently following the release of her second album 'It's not me, it's you' (I gave a mini review in one of my earlier posts) and then tickets for her show went on sale and sold out rather quickly, so she announced a second show, which has also sold out. But! Sources tell me she could (most definiately) be in talks with organizers of the BDO. So she could potentially be one of the international acts on the bill for the 2010 BDO. Exciting!! Well, i'm excited.. considering I missed out on tickets to her show. (Although, being as media savvy as I am I'm hopin/begging to wrangle some from somewhere). The BDO rumour mill is flying around this time of year, last post I wrote about Bruce Springsteen as a potential headliner, but along with him and Lily Allen, it is also very likely Muse could rock up on the bill. Although they did play the 2007 BDO, they have a new album due out later this year and sources tell me they're keen to come back to Oz.
Speaking of new albums, Alexisonfire has a release date for 'Old Crows/Young Cardinals' which will be released her in australia through dine alone records (no shock there) on June 23rd.
I am freaking excited.

Now, a little while ago I remember I was all over town saying The Basics had broken up. Well, that's what I heard. But! They just released a new single "With This Ship" (Which, a new music radio show called new and approved on syn had access to about the same time last year, the band appeared on the show for their subscriberthon and instead of donating money to the station, they donated the world premiere of their new single)
A couple of weeks later, I interviewed them at Moonee Valley Youth Fest and asked about their new album, which had pushed its release date back a bit. Now, almost a year later... still no album.. but new single.
I thought that Wally was doing a Pete Murray with his solo project Gotye and moving to another country because this one didn't appreciate the music he makes, I heard that Kris' gf went to Ireland and he was going off with her, and Tim was still up in Sydney with his gf Triple J's/Frankie magazine's Marieke Hardy... and word on the street was an obvious break up was on the cards.
However, they re-packaged and re-released their first album 'Get Back'... and now the release of this single.
So now, the music industry has their ears out for them.. making them very hot news. And it's all so clever.
At uni right now I study media (obviously), and one of my minors is Public Relations, and everyone asks me why and how I can do that as a minor, and how it is relevant to my passion for the music industry. I think the music industry holds PR in their back pocket as a last resort to generate excitement about the music, rather than the excitement of the music itself. And look how it's worked for not only the Basics, but also Lily Allen. They're so hot right now, all because of clever PR.
I find it all veryyyyyyyy interesting.

Moving on! V-fest hit melbourne on saturday and I was lucky enough to go along. I'm not going to do a full-winded review or anything.. I don't think it was worthy of a huge mention in my blog. I mean, the line - up was extremely dire in comparison to last year. In my opinion, they should have spread last year and this years line up over the two years, because so many good bands played last year you couldn't see them all, yet this year I just had hours of laying on the grass dismally because there were no bands worth seeing. I have to say though, Duffy was absolutely amazing. Not only talent wise, but holy shit she is good looking. She was absolutely stunning, the entire performance was great. And although the set list was rather dismal, the killers were actually brilliant. Obviously Mr.Brightside united the crowd who just rushed over from snow patrol (ew) to see them. Children Collide were also ridiculously good, considering they followed novelty act vanilla ice. I don't think the promoters knew how popular that dude would be, they had him on some tiny stage and the entire shed thing was just absolutely packed out. Kaiser Cheifs were ok too I guess, the lead singer is such a wanker though.
Anyway, I mean it was a pretty decent day, the line up was just so shit compared to last year.

I'm pretty sure that's all I have to tell you this week.
Keep watching from stories of Sydney.
Also, check out Eskimo Joe's new single, it's on high rotation spin on triple J at the minute.. Eskimo Joe are great, I was a lil dissapointed with their last album but I'm digging the vibe of this new single.
I'm not expecting much though.
If you don't exoect much, then you can't be too dissapointed now, can you?
Bella
