If you can't beat 'em

join 'em.

Why hello dear friends, I, once again have neglected my wonderful webspace in favour of a busy life.
But even if I did have the time to blog, admist working and studying, there wouldn't be much to blog about.

So I was out the other night, at the rochester (where else), and I was talking to some guy about why I like the arctic monkeys.
The guy was a complete tosser, he had the whole "money is the only thing in life that can make you happy" and his life was all about encompassing that.
Fair enough, what ever floats your boat.
So I told him that I was poor, but I'm still happy.
"How can that be?" he asked me, with glooming, dooming eyes.
And I replied "I have music."

Blah Blah Blah he goes on about music until we hit arctic monkeys.
He couldn't understand why I loved them so much, but didn't have the same enthusiasm for the beatles.
Well, I adore the beatles, but arctic are my soul. Why does that need to be explained?
What I love about arctic, and all music infact, is the feeling I get when I encapsulate myself into it. With every record I listen to, I remember exactly where I was, what sort of mindset I was in and what I was feeling when I first heard it. It's powerful, nostalgic stuff.
And as long as I can have that, I'm going to be extremely happy.

He wasn't satisfied with that answer, I wasn't satisfied with him.
Having said all that, this is my music blog, so now I'm gonna tell you about some cool new music you should check out.
OK, while recently I have been giving some old fave's a new spin (The last shadow puppets, adoreeeeeee, black plant has been on repeat all week), I have discovered some pretty rockin' new stuff to check out.
Bat for lashes - Daniel, very gazy, seeping stuff. The filmclip is amazing.
The Gossip - Heavy Cross - Catchy brilliance, and I don't even like that band too much.
Iron and Wine have released an album of b sides and rarities to tide us over until the release of their new one in 2010, it's quite subtle listening, worth a couple of spins.
Other than that though my lovelies, I haven't too much to report on the music front.
With the splendour line-up having been announced (bloc party again? eugh.) and no more word in 2010 BDO, it's all dry here!

But, I do have one announcement to make, and that is that I am going to the land of alex turner. England.
4 months of english bliss, i'm pretty excited, and no doubt I'll be blogging about all crazy types of music scenes when I'm over there.
Totally excited.
Anyway, I'm off to uni. The tedious place of learning.
Bel
xx
